Abby Pennington is a contemporary painter born and raised in Ohio. She was introduced to art at an early age by her mom, a mosaic artist and painter, who inspired her to explore various art mediums. Some of her best childhood memories are sitting on the floor of the kitchen (where the best lighting was) and watching her mom bring a canvas to life. Abby experimented with magazine-clipping collage, clay sculpture, painting/drawing, and helping out with mosaic projects. This led her to pursue art classes in high school and later a Fine Arts degree from Ohio University. It was here that she took her first painting class and fell in love with oil painting. Throughout her time at OU, she developed a unique style of bold and colorful art. Since receiving her BFA, Abby has continued developing this style and finding new ways to incorporate her love of color in her work.

Abby’s work serves to bring life and vibrancy to a space. She uses her paintings as a form of escapism, navigating through dark times (both personally and globally) by creating whimsical, sometimes fantastical worlds on canvas. Inspired by the natural world, she combines animals, plants, foods and delights with neon colorscapes to create a portal to a world that’s lighter and happier. Within these paintings, she hopes that viewers feel seen and allow for a place of joy and freedom.

Abby lives and works in Southeastern Ohio with her husband and 3 cats. Outside of painting, she enjoys reading, spending time with loved ones and swimming. Her work can be seen at the MermGoddess Tattoo Studio and Gallery in Lancaster, Ohio or at various art fairs across the nation.
